Example
Splitting a system into additional services may improve isolation, but it can also multiply deployment, observability, and support requirements. The tradeoff must be justified by real operational need.
A decision in one layer often creates consequences in the others. Moving business logic into a service changes API contracts. Introducing asynchronous processing changes data consistency and observability needs. Adding AI introduces new workflow state, access controls, evaluation requirements, and failure modes.

Depending on scope, deliverables may include a current-state assessment, target architecture, system-context and component diagrams, API contracts, a risk register, migration roadmap, and implementation sequence. The artifacts support the decisions above — they don't replace them.
Architecture Principles
A component should have a recognizable responsibility and a predictable relationship to the rest of the system.
Architecture should support the kinds of change the business is likely to make, not every theoretically possible future.
Distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and service decomposition are useful only when their benefits exceed their operational cost.
Systems should define what happens when dependencies fail, data is incomplete, or work must be retried or reviewed.
